Conversations
How conversations work and how to get the most out of them.
Your Vault Is the Memory
Unlike chat apps where you scroll back through old messages, Saga uses your vault as persistent memory. The files in your vault—notes, journal entries, documents—are what Saga remembers.
This means you can start fresh conversations without losing context. Saga reads your vault to understand who you are, not just what you said in the last chat.
Starting a New Conversation
You can start a new conversation anytime:
- •Press
⌘N(Command + N) - •Click the three dots next to the message input
New conversations start fresh, but Saga still has access to your vault files and instruction file.
Loading Context
When you start a conversation, it helps to tell Saga what context to load. Saga can use its tools to read relevant files before responding.
“Read my journal from this week and let's talk about how things are going.”
“Load my notes about the project and help me think through next steps.”
The more specific you are about what to load, the better Saga can help.
Startup Prompts
If you always want certain context loaded when you start a new chat, you can set a startup prompt in Settings → Vault.
For example, if you set your startup prompt to:
“Read my journal from the last 3 days”
Every time you press ⌘N, Saga will automatically run that prompt in the background before you even type anything.
Tip: You'll see a collapsible indicator at the top of the chat showing what was loaded. Click it to expand and see the details.
Types of Conversations
Daily check-ins
Quick reflections on your day, how you're feeling, what's on your mind.
Deep dives
Extended sessions to work through complex decisions or emotions.
Pattern review
Ask Saga to analyze your journal and surface insights you might miss.
Be Honest
Saga works best when you're authentic. Share what you're actually thinking and feeling—not what you think you should say.
The more honest you are, the more useful Saga's insights become. Your data stays private, so there's no reason to hold back.
