Local-First Architecture

Your data stays on your device. Here's how it works.

What Does Local-First Mean?

Local-first means your data lives on your computer, not in the cloud. Your journal entries, notes, and conversations are stored as files on your device that you fully own and control.

This is fundamentally different from cloud-based apps where your data lives on someone else's servers.

Why Local-First?

Privacy by default

Your thoughts and reflections never leave your computer. I can't see them, and neither can anyone else.

True ownership

Your files are standard markdown. Open them in any text editor, sync them with git, back them up how you want.

No vendor lock-in

If you ever stop using Saga, your data stays with you. No export needed—it's already yours.

Offline access

Your files work without an internet connection. (AI features require connectivity.)

What I Store

The only data stored in the cloud is:

  • • Your account information (email, subscription status)
  • • Usage metrics for billing

I do NOT store your journal entries, notes, conversations, or any content you create.
